APTA Meetings 7.1.24

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is a nonprofit international organization encompassing over 1,500 member entities from both the public and private sectors. The association provides various benefits to its members, including advocacy for federal funding and policy development, research initiatives, technical expertise, consulting services, workforce development programs, as well as educational conferences and seminars. APTA also supports 135 subject-matter working committees that facilitate industry collaboration.

As the sole organization in North America representing all modes of public transportation—such as bus, paratransit, light rail, commuter rail, subway, waterborne services, and intercity and high-speed rail—APTA plays a comprehensive role in the sector. Notably, over 90 percent of public transportation users in the United States and Canada utilize systems operated by APTA members.

Membership within APTA spans the entire industry spectrum—from planning, designing, financing, building, to operating transit systems—as well as the research, manufacturing, and maintenance of vehicles and transit-related equipment. The association's members also include academic institutions, transportation network companies, other transit associations, and state departments of transportation.
